New Features of Android N

Most of the Android users are known that all the new versions of Android name starts with English letters alphabetically. Now it is time for the Android 7.0 version which is currently but not permanently named ‘Android N’. Android N is a major change to the latest Android OS –  Marshmallow. It will be released in later 2016. But the beta version and developer preview is already out now on Google Nexus devices and Chromebooks.

Android N has a revamped new look of the whole mobile operating system. There are some notable changes in UI, Performance and speed. Few new features are also added. We will be talking about those new features today. Google introduces some cool new features of Android N in the Google I/O 2016.

Multi-window Multitasking

This is the era of multitasking. Multitasking saves time and energy. But Android lacks in multitasking windows like the windows OS. Android N solves that problem. It has a true multitasking feelings on mobile. User can split the mobile screen and do different tasks on different screen parts. For example, a user can watch an Youtube video on the half of the screen and use other half of the screen to make a short list of tasks done by him today.

But unfortunately not all apps are multitasking compatible. Hope this problem will be solved in the more updated version of the software. Users can double-tap the task switching button to get back to the recently opened task or apps. There is also an ‘All Clear” button added to make it more comfortable with multitasking.

Performance Enhancements

Performance enhancements is a thing that cannot be seen on the outside. But Android N has some significant performance boost. As Google stated at Google I/O 2016 that, N is adopting new graphics API called Vulkan which will enhance gaming efficiency. Moreover, Android N has JIT (Just In Time) compiler and support Java 8. It will make the runtime and installing time of the android apps much shorter.

Updated Notifications
There is a complete revamp in the notifications display of Android N. The icons are now a bit smaller which makes better use of space. Users can long-press a notification to turn it completely off or get less notifications from that app. Android N includes row of five icons on top of the notifications bar which can be changed. It saves many time. Moreover, there is an “All Clear” button to vanish all the opened apps.

New Keyboard Themes

It may not look like a complete new features but Android N let users change their themes and colors of the stock android keyboard. There are a big collection of themes in Android N. Another new addition to the keyboard is the new collection of emojis. People are using those fancy emojis to express their feelings more than often. Google added some emoji faces with different skin tones, so that users will not call them racist.

Instant Apps

Google is making easier for the users to choose apps they really need. A user no longer always have to go to PlayStore, search for the desired app and download it. The app will automatically be installed or perhaps a page of the app will be shown when necessary. Suppose, you are reading an article about Unicorn. You searched google for pictures of Unicorns. Google will suggest you a page with Unicorn pictures. But the page is actually an app that will load on your Android OS. You can download the app from the download button on the page if you really like the page.

Seamless Updates

Android N has an awesome capability to update the software seamlessly.Software update prompts, booting off the phone, installation may make some users annoyed. But now the devices will automatically be updated and updates will be installed whenever you turn off the phone. And after reboot you will get a fresh updated version of the software. But this may not always come handy. If your Internet Connection is limited or slow, then auto-update will be an issue. Moreover, nobody wants to wait for some minutes after rebooting the phone when in emergence. There should be an option to choose custom updates in the new Android.
