Take a look at the first Project Tango smartphone

Chinese multinational technology company Lenovo announced the first project Tango smartphone. Lenovo Phab 2 Pro will be running the computer vision system of Google named Tango. Lenovo and Google first announced that they were working on Project Tango together at CES 2016. The phone will be available to customers within September of this year.

It is a technology platform that enables smartphones to detect their position in the real world using GPS and various sensors. Users can experience augmented reality, play 3D games, Map real world objects, measure size and temperature of physical spaces and tons more.  It is a deep connection between hardware and the core android system of the smartphones that enables the true power of augmented reality in phone


Lenovo Phab 2 Pro looks like a typical larger screen smartphone or phablet. But the difference between other smartphones are the sensors built in it. It has a wide range of upgraded sensors to sense the surroundings of it. Let’s take a look at the specifications of this Tango enabled smartphone-

Lenovo Phab 2 Pro will be available in gunmetal grey and champagne gold these two colors. There is a fingerprint sensor on the back of the phone. The cameras are divided into layers so that it can easily capture 3D vision of the surrounding areas. Users can use some real world Tango applications to feel the real power of this phone. Applications built for Project Tango phones can be found on the Google Playstore. But most of this apps will not run on non-Tango enables andrioid phones. 
Phab2-pic6-big-1There is an app called Lowe’s Home Improvement where the users can virtually create an object, as an example user can create a furniture and put it in the room to see if it fits properly. Then they can decide buying a real one. There is an augmented reality games – Phantogeist, where the surrounding of the user become the battlefield. Player have to battle with phantom creatures all over the room. Raise is a puppy feeding game where you can put your virtual puppy anywhere in the room. You will be amazed to see these apps. But there are a few apps available for Tango in the Playstore. If developers do not create Tango apps in faster way, then the users will get easily bored with it.
Phab2-pic7-bigPhab 2 Pro seems like a useful smartphone for the architects. But it is uncertain that how many people will actually buy a Tango enabled smartphone for their daily use. It is a heavy and thick phone with a big price tag. Lacks USB type C and Li-Polymer batteries which are trending nowadays. Not sure if we should be excited about this new smartphone.
